PTIIK welcoming the visit by UTM

Prof. Dr. Rose Alinda, Vice Rector I Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) visited Program of Information Technology and Computer Science (PTIIK) Universitas Brawijaya (23/12). Prof. Rose said that the visit is to introduce UTM, especially the doctoral program (PhD) of Faculty of Computing (FC) to the lecturers in PTIIK.

Prof. Rose explained that up to now, the amount of post graduate student in UTM has reached 3.000 students. 600 of which are students of PhD program.
“The PhD students in UTM has reached six hundreds. 60 percent of which are from various countries. Only fourty percent are from Malaysia”, as explained by Prof. Rose.

Aside from the facilities to support campus life, Prof. Rose said that PhD students in UTM will also experience learning from professors from know universities such as Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University.
“We often invite professors from known universities such as MIT and Harvard for guest lecture. So without going to US, students can feel the experience of learning as in Harvard and MIT,” he said.

To be enrolled in the UTM PhD program, there are several requirements that should be fulfilled. Such as; good English skill, shown by TOEFL or IELTS certificate, min GPA of 3.0 and research experience and paper that has been made will also be consideration.

Prof. Rose also give some information related to scholarship that can be obtained by those who are interested to PhD program of UTM. The are various kinds of scholarship. From scholarship by UTM, Malaysian government, to various scholarships from various companies or industries in Malaysia.

Regarding the scholarship from Malaysian government (Malaysia International Scholarship/ MIS) it can be applied prior entering UTM. According to Prof. Rose, application of MIS can be performed since the candidate is in the home country.
“MIS can be applied prior to entering UTM. You only need to show letter of offer from UTM, and required documents, and you can apply for MIS,” she said. It is expected that with the visit by representative of UTM it can give new knowledge, especially for lecturers of PTIIK who are planning to continue their study. [dna/denok/translated by yasmeen]
